a. remove valve cover
b. remove fuel injection lines
1. Loosen two hose clamps (3), and remove hose (5).
2. Disconnect tube assembly (air indicator) (2) from fitting (1).
3. Remove four bolts (6) and nuts that hold pipe assembly (air transfer) (4) to fan drive bracket (7).
4. Lift pipe assembly (air transfer) (4). Put it in position on top of fan drive bracket (7) as shown to provide clearance to remove the valve cover base.
5. Use two wrenches, one to hold adapter assemblies (9) so they will not turn and one to loosen nuts (8). Disconnect the fuel injection nozzles from the adapter assemblies. Remove adapter assemblies (9) from the valve cover base.
6. Remove bolts (10), valve cover base (11) and the gasket from the cylinder head assembly.
Install Valve Cover Base
1. Install a new gasket on the valve cover base if needed.
2. Put valve cover base (3) and the gasket in position on the cylinder head assembly as shown.
3. Install the bolts that hold valve cover base (3) in place. Tighten the bolts in the number sequence shown to a torque of 14 ± 3 N·m (10 ± 2 lb.ft.).
4. Inspect the seals on adapter assemblies (2), and replace them if they are damaged.
5. Put clean engine oil in the bores of the valve cover base and on the seals of adapter assemblies (2). Install the adapter assemblies in the bores of valve cover base (3).
6. Connect the fuel injection nozzles to adapter assemblies (2). Use two wrenches, one to hold the adapter assemblies and one to tighten nuts (1) to a torque of 41 ± 7 N·m (30 ± 5 lb.ft.).
7. Put pipe assembly (air transfer) (7) in position on fan drive bracket (10) as shown. Install four bolts (9) and nuts that hold pipe assembly (air transfer) (7) to fan drive bracket (10).
8. Put hose (8) in position as shown, and tighten two hose clamps (6) that hold it in place.
9. Connect tube assembly (air indicator) (5) to fitting (4).
