Usage:
1. Loosen bolt (2) that holds the alternator to the bracket.
2. Loosen bolt (5) that holds the adjusting rod in place.
3. Loosen bolt (6) that holds the block to the alternator, and loosen two nuts (8) on the adjusting rod to remove the tension on the Vee belts. Remove Vee belts (9) from the alternator pulley.
4. Put identification marks on all the wires that are connected to the alternator.
5. Disconnect wire assembly (1) from the alternator.
6. Remove the bolt, and disconnect wire assembly (10) from the alternator.
7. Remove the screw, and disconnect ground wire (7) from the alternator.
8. Remove bolt (6) that holds the block to the alternator.
9. Remove bolt (2) that holds alternator (4) on bracket (3). Remove the alternator from the engine.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the alternator. See 3204 Vehicular Engine, Specifications for torque values for the alternator on your machine.
10. Put alternator (4) in position on the bracket, and install bolt (2) and the nut that holds it in place. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.
11. Put the block in position on the alternator, and install bolt (6) that holds it in place. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.
12. Put ground wire (7) in position on the alternator, and install the screw that holds it.
13. Put wire assembly (10) in position on the alternator, and install the bolt that holds it in place.
14. Connect wire assembly (1) to the alternator.
NOTE: Make a replacement of the Vee belts as a set only.
15. Put Vee belts (9) in position on the alternator pulley. Make an adjustment to the Vee belt tension with adjustment nuts (8) on the adjusting rod. Check the belt tension of the Vee belt farthest from the engine with tool (A) or an equivalent. Tighten new belts to a gauge indication of 535 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb.). Operate the engine at high idle for a minimum of 30 minutes, then make another adjustment to the Vee belt tension. The correct tension for a used Vee belt is a gauge indication of 400 ± 45 N (90 ± 10 lb.). Tighten two nuts (8) on the adjusting rod afte the belt tension has been adjusted.
16. Tighten bolt (2) that holds the alternator to the mounting bracket.
17. Tighten bolt (6) that holds the block to the alternator.
18. Tighten bolt (5) that holds the adjusting rod in place on the fan bracket assembly.
