New Connecting Rod Bolt Tightening Procedure{1218}

Usage:

G3606 (3XF214),
G3608 (4WF141),
G3612 (1YG178),
G3616 (4CG182) Engines

A new connecting rod bolt tightening procedure went into effect with the above engines. This new procedure should also be used on all earlier G3600 Engines. Use the illustration as a guide for identification of connecting rod bolts.

Identification of connecting rod bolts.

NOTE: The No. 1 and No. 2 connecting rod bolts are on the same side of the connecting rod as the connecting rod bearing tab slots.

1. Lubricate the connecting rod bolt threads, bolt shank, and nut seating faces of the cap and nut with 6V-4876 Molykote Paste Lubricant.

2. Tighten nut No. 1 and then tighten nut No. 4 to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (220 ± 22 lb ft).

3. Tighten nut No. 3 and then tighten nut No. 2 to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (220 ± 22 lb ft).

4. Tighten nut No. 3 again and then tighten nut No. 2 again to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (220 ± 22 lb ft).

5. Tighten nut No. 3 and then tighten nut No. 2 an additional 180 ± 5 degrees.

6. Tighten nut No. 1 again and then tighten nut No. 4 again to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (220 ± 22 lb ft).

7. Tighten nut No. 1 and then tighten nut No. 4 an additional 180 ± 5 degrees.
