3616 (1PD, 1FN) Engines
Description of Change: New control rod assemblies are used in the fuel injection control groups on these engines. The new rod assemblies include new rod ends with hardened bearings. The hardened bearings exhibit superior wear characteristics and have increased service life. The new rod assemblies will maintain tight tolerances for a longer period of time than the former rod assemblies, which will provide better engine speed regulation and smoother operation. These improvements to the rod assemblies will also simplify the injector synchronization process.
Adaptable To: The new rod assemblies are effective with the engine serial numbers that are shown in Table 1. Table 1 also identifies the part numbers of the fuel injection control groups that contain the respective rod assemblies, according to engine model.
The locations of the rod assemblies are shown in the illustrations. Table 2 identifies the new and former part numbers of the rod assemblies. In addition to hardened bearings, the 1W-0647 Rod Assembly includes peened threads, in order to eliminate separation of the rod.
