Changes To Track Motor Guard Improve Protection{7163}

Usage:

227 Loggers

Description of Change: Changes have been made to the track motor guard group on 227 Loggers. Several new plate assemblies, bosses and hardware are used. The changes will give better protection to the mounting bolts, keep debris out of the guard, and prevent damage to the guard caused by debris on the ground.

Adaptable To: The new parts are adaptable to all 227 Loggers. Some of the new parts are not yet available for service but can be fabricated as shown in the illustrations that follow. It will also be necessary to make some modifications to the 8K3833 Guard Assembly so the new parts will fit.

Four 7B3235 Bolts, six 2H3855 Bolts and ten 5P8245 Washers are needed to fasten the new plates to the guard assembly. Five 4J3276 Bosses are used to give protection to the mounting bolts for the guard assembly.

Fabrication And Modification Procedure

1. Fabricate Plates A and B. See Illustrations 1 and 2.

2. Weld the nuts on Plates A and B as shown in Illustration 5.

3. Fabricate two Plate Assemblies C shown in Illustration 3. Weld Bar K on the opposite side of the second plate assembly.

4. Block D is made of 22 mm (.875") square steel that is 215 mm (8.5") long. Weld Block D and five 4J3276 Bosses to the guard assembly. See Illustration 4.

5. Fabricate Plates E from steel that is 310 mm (12.2") long, 25 mm (1.000") wide and 6 mm (.250") thick.

6. Weld plates E to the Guard Assembly. Drill and tap the holes in the guard assembly, as shown in Illustration 6.

7. Drill Slots F in the location shown in Illustration 7.

8. Use the bolts and washers to install the four plates. See Illustration 8.
