Direct Inquiry Service Information Retrieval System (SIRS) Available To U.S. And Canadian Dealers{0374}

Usage:

Did you know that since September 8, 1980 all U.S. and Canadian dealers have had on-line computer access to the Service Information Retrieval System (SIRS) using the Dealer Terminal System? Dealer parts and service personnel can now take full advantage of this valuable product support tool. The major advantages of Direct Inquiry SIRS over the microfiche SIRS Index are:

1. The information is current. A few days after the paper publications reach you, they are included in the Direct Inquiry SIRS.
2. There are fewer steps in the retrieval process. You only need to include the serial number prefix and SMCS Code(s) to access the information you need.
3. It saves time. Once your request is entered in the computer, the wait for the returning references is usually less than the time required to search for the required microfiche.

There are three basic inquiries you can make using this new service:

1. By entering the specific serial number prefix and appropriate SMCS Code(s) (up to a maximum range of 10) you will receive all the specific published references (Service Magazine articles, etc.) on the topic(s).
2. By entering N/C in the serial number prefix location and appropriate SMCS Code(s) (up to a maximum range of 10) you will receive all the general published references on the topic(s).
3. By entering the specific serial number prefix and 0000 in the SMCS code location you will receive all the basic reference information such as Parts Books, L & M Guides and Service Manuals available for that particular product.

A Direct Inquiry SIRS User Instructions Book, Form SEBD3447, is available and may be ordered on a Miscellaneous Material Order. This book explains in step-by-step detail exactly how to use this new system.
