Coolant Conditioner Elements Are Now Available For 3208 Engines{1350}

Usage:

Coolant conditioner elements are now available for use with all 3208 Industrial, Marine and Truck Engines. When correctly used, these elements will keep cooling system inhibitors at an acceptable level during normal operation of the engine without the addition of liquid cooling system conditioner. The coolant conditioner elements can be used with any ethylene glycol type anti-freeze, but must not be used with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill Coolant. At the present time, no corrosion inhibitor is available for addition to a cooling system with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill.

As shown in the chart, three coolant conditioner elements are available for the cooling systems of 3208 Engines. Two of these are "precharge" elements, for use during the first service interval after the system is filled with new coolant. A selection of the correct precharge element to use must be made according to the capacity of the cooling system. The other element available is a "maintenance" element, which is used to keep inhibitors at the correct level in the system after the first (precharge) service interval. The same maintenance element is used for all system capacities. Be sure to change elements at the correct intervals according to the maintenance instructions sent with the engine. The coolant conditioner elements are to be changed at every oil change interval, according to Caterpillar recommendations.

NOTE: The elements shown in the chart are used for other applications in addition to this application. For this reason, the application specifications and service intervals shown on the element are different from the specifications shown here and the service intervals shown in the maintenance guide. Use only the installation instructions information shown on the element; do not use the element's service interval or application information. Also, the information on some elements about use with Dowtherm 209 is a reference to the earlier Dowtherm 209 concentrate (a solution to be mixed with water), and is not correct for the current Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill product.

To install a coolant conditioner element on a 3208 Engine, use a 9N3668 Base Assembly and two 9N3666 Valve Assemblies. A Special Instruction, Form SEHS7222, is available with complete installation information.
