Usage:
D5B Tractors And 561D Pipelayers Equipped With Power Shift Transmissions
If a D5 or D5B Tractor or a 561D Pipelayer equipped with a Power Shift transmission has a low-hour flexible coupling failure or several flexible coupling failures, check the alignment of the engine flywheel and the torque converter input shaft.
The full indicator movement (FIM; formerly total indicator reading---TIR) in 360° measurement of the flywheel radial runout must not be more than 2.03 mm (.080"). The runout at the face of the flywheel must not be more than 0.66 mm (.026") in 360° of measurement. See Illustrations 1 and 2.

Illustration 2. Installation of indicator to check flywheel face runout.
The complete procedure and tools necessary to check the alignment of the engine flywheel and torque converter input shaft are given on page 4 of the Service Manual, "Specifications For D5B Tractor Powertrain," Form No. SENR7554-01 which is used in the Service Manual, "D5B Tractors," Form No. SENR7548.
Also, check the engine low idle speed. The correct setting is 670 ± 30 RPM. If the low idle speed is too slow, vibration can cause a failure of the flexible coupling.
