Check For Correct Location Of Trolling Mode Input Wire{1408}

Usage:

3408C (8RG116-212),
3412C (3JK172-406) Marine Engines

On the above engines, the trolling mode input wire (purple) may be connected to the wrong pin on the P14 electrical connector (the 40 pin ECM connector). The trolling mode input wire should be connected to pin 6 (not pin 16) of the 40 pin connector.

If the connection is not correct, use an 8T-5318 Connector Tool to remove the trolling mode input wire (purple) from pin 16. Use needlenose pliers to remove the 8T-8737 Plug from pin 6. Install the 8T-8737 Plug into pin 16. Install the trolling mode input wire (purple) into pin 6.

NOTE: Make note of this information on Schematic, SENR6448, 3408 and 3412 High Performance Marine Engines. Electronic Troubleshooting, SENR5522-02, 3408 and 3412 High Performance Marine Engines, and Installation Guide, SENR6422, 3400 Electronic Marine Engines show the correct wire connections.

NOTE: The trolling mode is an optional customer connection. If the vessel's marine gear is not equipped for trolling, and/or the trolling mode input is not connected to the Caterpillar Engine Electronics, the engine will operate properly. The engine and electronics will not be damaged or affected by a ground input to pin 16 instead of pin 6. If a ground input is provided to pin 16, the trolling function will not engage and no change will be seen.
