Usage:
3608 (6MC),
3616 (1PD) Engines
Description of Change: New turbocharger groups with different turbine wheels are used. The former turbine wheels had an elliptical hole in each turbine blade. This hole is for the dampening wire. A crack could start in the elliptical hole and move outward. This could result in a turbine blade failure. The new turbocharger groups use turbine wheels with round dampening wire holes (1). See the illustration. The new turbine wheels have more resistance to developing cracks and will provide improved service life.
Location of round dampening wire hole (1) in blades on turbine wheel.
Adaptable To: The new turbocharger groups are direct replacements for the former turbocharger groups as listed in the chart. The new turbocharger groups are effective with 3608 Engine 6MC293 and 3616 Engine 1PD042.
The chart also lists the new shaft and wheel assemblies (turbine wheels) used in the new turbocharger groups. The new turbine wheels can be used in the former turbocharger groups. If a turbine blade failure occurs in a former turbocharger group, and the damage can be repaired, install a new turbine wheel as listed in the chart.
