2. Verify the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Reading A. Turn the keyswitch to OFF. B. Release the pressure in the high-pressure rail by loosening the end plug on one of the last two fuel accumulators. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel Rail Pressure - Release" for instructions on how to release the pressurized fuel. C. Turn the keyswitch to ON. D. Connect Cat ET. E. Monitor the following parameter in Cat ET. - Fuel Rail Pressure Note: The fuel rail pressure sensor is not reusable. If removed, then the sensor must be replaced. |

Result: The "Fuel Rail Pressure" is Proceed to Test Step 3. Result: The "Fuel Rail Pressure" is greater than Repair: Vent the pressure from the fuel system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel Rail Pressure - Release". Replace the fuel rail pressure sensor. Proceed to Test Step 3. |
3. Check for Codes A. Remove the accumulator leak detection plugs and run a "Fuel System Functional Test" in Cat ET. B. Start the engine and operate the engine at high idle. C. Look for active or logged diagnostic codes. |
Codes |
Result: No codes present. Reinstall the accumulator leak detection plugs. Return to service. |
