The steering system contains 3 main components:
- The steering priority valve that is in the combination valve
- Steering hand metering unit
- Left and right steering cylinders
Hydraulic oil for the steering circuit is supplied by the implement and steering pump. The steering priority valve gives priority to steering function over the hydraulic implement system. The priority valve senses pressure in the steering circuit.
Typically, the requirement for oil flow to the steering circuit is significantly less than the available hydraulic pump flow. Oil flow to other circuits is not interrupted when steering is operated. The steering metering pump provides oil flow to the steering cylinders. The metering pump is operated by the direction and rotation of the steering wheel.
