Introduction

Pumps Serial Numbers

Pumps affected will have a letter “A” in the first position (Design Rev) of the date code. Pumps not requiring the update have a “B” in this position.

Problem

This software update will insure that the pump oil temperatures are at ideal levels for consistent operation of this tensioning process. At lower operating temperatures (<15°C/60°F) the pump could act erratic as the higher viscosity oil will affect the precision of the pump performance. Caterpillar requires that a thermometer decal be added to the oil tank on the side of the pump group. This new software requires operator to input the current oil temperature on the pump HMI (Human Machine Interface) so that an oil warming cycle time can be automatically calculated to bring the pump oil up to ideal working range before the tensioning process begins.

  4. The software will begin to update on its own. The screen may flash. This is normal. When the update is completed, the screen, shown above, will be displayed.

  5. Disconnect power to the pump. Remove the USB drive. Wait for at least 30 seconds, and then reconnect power to the pump.

  6. Install the decals in the order shown above for both sides of the reservoir.

    1. Decal #1 should be installed above decal #2.

    2. Both decals should be on the center line of the reservoir (as shown above).

    3. Decal #2 should be about 1.0 in - 1.5 in (25mm - 38mm) from the bottom of the reservoir (as shown above).

Email Dealer Service Tools for your upgrade kit.

Contact Jeff Curry at Curry_Jeffory_T@Cat.com.

Your dealer code, specific dealership address, and ship to contact information should all be included in your email. Also specify how many kits are needed based on the number of these two pump groups you have purchased. An upgrade kit will be shipped to you directly from Enerpac. If you have sold either 498-6540 or 498-6541 Tensioner Pump Group to a customer, the dealer may perform the upgrades at your next scheduled visit with that customer. The dealer may charge ½ (0.5) hour of labor back through warranty on customer pumps only. Dealer owned pumps will not be reimbursed for labor.
