DEF Tank Not Filling

Use this procedure to troubleshoot a problem filling the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank through the fill port on top of the tank.

Probable Causes

  • Lines

  • Breather

Troubleshooting Test Steps  Values  Results 

1. Inspect the DEF Tank Vent Line
 

Line 

Result: The vent line is not plugged.

Proceed to Test Step 2.

Result: The vent line is plugged.

Repair: Clean or replace the plugged vent line.

If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.
 

2. Inspect the DEF Tank Vent Line Breather
 

Breather 

Result: The vent line breather is plugged.

Repair: Clean or replace the plugged vent line breather.

Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
 

If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
