Added Fuel Line Air Purge test to remove trapped air caused by initial assembly and/or service. The Support for FLAP test is available in ET2014B onwards

Physical Ambient Temperature PETU

For Arctic Package only environment, a PETU (Pump Electronic Tank Unit) ambient temperature will need added for improved Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) thaw in cold-weather condition. This sensor is removed by default can be enabled through ET2014B onwards. Add the 191-6587 Temperature Sensor Gp using the 102-8802 Receptacle Kit to Aftertreatment Control module J2 Pin 94 (Signal) and Pin 93 (Return). The sensor should be placed in a location that represents true ambient.

Data Link Support for Pin 46/47

Physical work mode switches are required to define work mode. Pin 46 (Elevated Engine Speed Allowed switch) and Pin 47 (Aftertreatment Regeneration Engine Speed Allowed Switch) has been added. Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) configuration "Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Enable Input Configuration", defaults to wired, and can be set to J1939.

Intake Manifold Air Pressure (IMAP) Substitution

During cold ambient operation, IMAP may freeze. In these conditions the CRS intake pressure is substituted if IMAP faults. This feature only applies to C15 and C18 engines

SCR Replacement ET parameters

Issue

No SCR catalyst reset capability available for when SCR catalyst is changed.

Resolution

Cat ET was updated to include an SCR catalyst replacement function. This function allows the user to reset the hours on the SCR catalyst to zero. This reset is similar to DPF Ash Service Reset function. ET2014C onwards is required

Defect Fixes

SCR Inducements

Issue

On industrial applications, in order to get the inducement to clear so service tests can be performed a factory password is required to turn on the override

Resolution

Three service tests are now allowed to override the inducement and complete as requested without factory passwords being required. These three service tests are the Aftertreatment NOx Sensor Functional Test, Aftertreatment System Functional Test, and Coolant Diverter Valve Test.

Issue

The inducement actions for low DEF level 3 failure modes are not removed even if the fault code for low DEF level 3 is no longer active while safe harbor mode is active. This software behavior will cause safe harbor timer to continue increment even if the fault code is not active anymore. This issue affects EU inducement strategy only. The inducement software reports incorrect time remaining in ET before final inducement action

Resolution

The safe harbor mode timer strategy related to low DEF level 3 faults for EU inducement strategy is updated. Counter for time remaining before final inducement in Cat ET is corrected.

Issue

For the European Union (EU) configuration, the safe harbor mode flag is not coming up for DEF level inducements in Cat ET. This is not applicable to the World Wide configuration.

Resolution

An improved safe harbor mode status flag has been included. This functionality is for the European Union configuration for DEF level inducements.

Issue

In electric power applications, the default engine emissions operator inducement configuration is currently set to reduced performance. Set the reduction to reduced time.

Resolution

Created tune, for electric power applications to use that will allow the software to default to the reduced time configuration. All other applications will not be impacted and remain defaulted to reduced performance.

Aftertreatment System Functional Test (ASFT) Time Remaining Screen

Issue

The ASFT is showing inaccurate time to complete service test message.

Resolution

Corrected the ASFT to allow the appropriate time remaining message to be shown.

Hot Shut Down During Service Test

Issue

When performing the DPF service regeneration in Cat ET and the key is in the off position, there is risk of DES strategy timing out and the engine shutting down with high exhaust temps.

Resolution

The DPF service regeneration will abort immediately when the key switch is turned to the off position, allowing the DES to cool exhaust and eliminate risk.

False Trip EGR Delta Pressure And Mass Flow Codes

Issue

EGR differential pressure E1094 and EGR mass flow E1096 false tripping, when the EGR differential pressure sensor voltage codes CID 3387become active.

Resolution

Improved EGR differential pressure and mass flow event triggers to eliminate false trip due to EGR differential pressure sensor voltage issues.

Intermittent NOx sensor codes

Issue

NOx Sensor failure diagnostics leading to faster level 3 inducements.

Resolution

Improved the 3216-12 Aftertreatment #1 Intake NOx Level Sensor: Failure diagnostics.

Fail to Purge Events

Issue

DEF fail to purge fault is false tripping in certain conditions.

Resolution

Improved diagnostic - SPN-FMI: 3362-14, EID-WCI: 1972-1 Aftertreatment 1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Unit Input Lines: Special Instruction - Event E114 (1) Aftertreatment #1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Unit Input Lines Not Purged.

ECM Enable Codes

Issue

Default setting in Cat ET did not show all active faults/events for all ECMs.

Resolution

Changed the default setting in Cat ET to show all active ECMs in order to display all active faults/events to the technician.

Frozen Lines

Issue

Frozen lines are causing escalated soot build-up and incomplete, frequent regenerations as software is designed to use soot model only.

Resolution

The strategy is updated to fix incomplete, frequent regenerations, and high soot buildup problem.

ASFT (Aftertreatment System Function Test) updates

Issue

Aftertreatment system functional test is not successfully clearing the low DEF quality fault due to low fuel rates and low SCR inlet temperatures. Test will complete but does not clear the fault.

Resolution

Updated software to allow aftertreatment system functional test to complete successfully and clear out the low DEF quality fault.

HC Evaporation Regen Dosing

Issue

The HC evaporation regeneration is not able to run when DEF dosing is unavailable due to cold ambient temperatures below −37° C (−34.6° F).

Resolution

Added HC evaporation regeneration to the critical regeneration list that allows it to run even if DEF dosing is unavailable at the time the HC evaporation regeneration is requested.

Issue

Aftertreatment system functional test will not complete successfully under low fueling conditions.

Resolution

Lowered the required fuel thresholds for aftertreatment system functional test and NOx sensor functional test to allow for successful completion in low load applications.

Emission Gas Reduction (EGR) Anti-Sticking Strategy

Issue

The EGR valve open circuit diagnostics are unable to detect an open circuit after key on for that key cycle. This can lead to false tripping of EGR low flow diagnostic.

Resolution

Updated to address the fault detection after key on to eliminate false trip of the EGR low flow diagnostic.

Feedback Test Dosing Control Unit

Issue

The "Coolant Diverter Valve Test" in Cat ET will always abort about 30 seconds into the test and is currently allowed to run with the engine not running.

Resolution

Improved the "Coolant Diverter Valve Test" to correct the test aborting after 30 seconds. An abort was added to the test that will return "Engine RPM Too Low" message for instances where the test is trying to be completed with the engine not running.

Communication Failure

Issue

The DCU was found to be logging a CAN communication diagnostic code internally that was not seen by the aftertreatment ECM. This causes the DCU to stop dosing, purge the system, and wait for the diagnostic to clear before attempting to continue dosing.

Resolution

Added a new diagnostic for these situations. The new diagnostic added is Aftertreatment #1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Controller: Abnormal Update Rate(J1939: 3360-9, CDL 3820-9).

ARD Fuel Line Air Purge (FLAP) Test

Issue

During the "ARD Fuel Line Air Purge Service Test", a stuck open CRS fuel valve will not be detected with the current software logic.

Resolution

The high fuel pressure diagnostic check for the pilot and main CRS fuel pressures during the service test is enabled. If the fault code is tripped, it will turn off the CRS fuel and exit the service test.

CRS Priming Pump Control

Issue

The CRS priming pump stuck on detection strategy is found to potentially missing a failure for engine off a diagnostic check. This is based on current threshold settings at 350 kPa (50.8 psi).

Resolution

Changed the detection strategy to open the PWM fuel valves briefly during the engine off pump stuck check. The pressures seen would be greater than 350 kPa (50.8 psi) threshold and result in proper diagnostic fault code trip.

Nozzle Heater Cat ET override

Issue

Incomplete ARD nozzle heater cycles are causing regenerations to be inhibited and could lead to soot issues.

Resolution

The regenerations will not be inhibited by incomplete ARD nozzle heater cycles.

Delayed Engine Shutdown

Issue

The engine ECM was not able to determine the SCR system state to drive the purge lamp and shutdown. The engine shutdown is delayed when SCR system purge is complete.

Resolution

The SCR system state changed to send from the aftertreatment ECM to the engine ECM. Improved the purge lamp and delayed engine shutdown functionality.

CRS Spark

Issue

The ARD nozzle is plugging due to less than desired nozzle heater temperatures. The plugging is being caused by insufficient grounding for both the nozzle heater and spark during simultaneous operation.

Resolution

Updated the ARD nozzle heater control strategy to disable the spark during a nozzle heater cycle.

EGR Cold Mode

Issue

Machine applications are logging excessive low EGR delta pressure code E1093 during cold ambient conditions due to EGR sensor freezing.

Resolution

Improved the EGR cold mode strategy to allow the sensor to thaw properly, prior to going to normal EGR operation.

Safe Harbor

Issue

Safe Harbor mode functionality on commercial engines does not function properly during a delayed engine shutdown.

Resolution

The safe harbor mode is activated during delayed engine shutdown. The inducement action is removed when safe harbor mode is activated for commercial applications.

False Trip DEF Pressure

Issue

E931 Low DEF Pressure fault can false trip due to low DEF tank level.

Resolution

Improved the diagnostics for DEF pressure low event to eliminate false trip caused by low DEF tank level.

Cat ET Intake Manifold Air Pressure (IMAP) Valve Display

Issue

The IMAP value is not being properly displayed in Cat ET.

Resolution

Updated the software to correct the IMAP values not being consistently displayed in Cat ET.

Cat ET ARD Nozzle Heater

Issue

The ARD nozzle heater override in Cat ET is not able to run when regeneration is desired.

Resolution

Changed the priorities related to the override to allow ARD nozzle heater override to be requested even if regeneration is desired.

Cat ET Coolant Diverter Valve (CDV)

Issue

The CDV test is allowed to start and run in application-based engine files when engine speed is not present.

Resolution

Updated the CDV test to require engine speed for all applications in order to complete the service test.

Arctic DEF System Operation

Issue

DEF system operation below ambient temperatures of −40° C (−40° F) is not required. However, current software still induces if any DEF components cannot thaw or refreezes during operation for all ambient temperatures

Resolution

Disabled all DEF system dosing for ambient temperatures below −40° C (−40° F).

False Trip Nox Sensor

Issue

False tripping of the 3216-12 and/or 3226-12 NOx sensor diagnostics, leading to NFF sensor replacements.

Resolution

Improved strategy for NOx sensor diagnostics 3216-12 and 3226-12 to prevent false tripping.

DEF Level Sensor

Issue

Current inducement software does not trigger required inducement action for conditions where the DEF tank level sensor is electronically faulted and the DEF dosing system pressure is electronically faulted.

Resolution

Updated the DEF level sensor diagnostics to trigger correct inducement actions for these conditions.

Factory Password Requirement Change

Issue

Many fault codes require the technician to get factory passwords in order to reset. Often times, technicians are unable to generate these factory passwords to clear codes when troubleshooting on machines in the field. Also, the aftertreatment system functional test needs to be completed anytime a code from is active.

Note: Refer to the tables below for the codes associated with this issue.

The safe harbor mode is activated during delayed engine shutdown. The inducement action is removed when safe harbor mode is activated for commercial applications.

Additional Information

PMI – Auto Fuel Issue

In Cat ET, if "Auto Fuel" is selected as one of the Programmable Maintenance Indicator Modes, the "Auto Fuel" mode will not be applied until power cycle.

Reversing Fan at Zero Engine Speed

If the fan and the reversing fan are enabled at zero engine speed, the reversing fan parameters on the Cat ET status screen will show "disabled" or "not installed" until the engine speed is increased beyond 0 rpm.

Reversing fan

If the "Reversing Fan" feature is disabled and enabled after changing the purge interval time within the same key cycle, the interval that takes effect is the last programmed value and not the newly programmed value. After the purge is complete, the new value takes effect.
