Engine News SEBD9674, October 2010, "A New Rocker Shaft Bolt Is Used on Certain C15 and C18 Engines ". Disregard the current article. Refer to the article that follows. The torque procedure for the bolts has changed.

The new rocker shaft bolt has an improved retention over the existing bolt.

The new 356-5212 Bolt is a direct replacement for the existing 5J-5794 Bolt on the serial numbers listed above.

Note: The new 356-5212 Bolt does not require a washer that was used on some of the previous applications.

This change is effective for the serial numbers listed in Table 1.

    Tightening sequence

  1. Apply clean engine oil to the bottom side of the bolt heads and bolt threads prior to installation.

  1. Torque the bolts in the sequence shown in Illustration 1 to a torque of 55 N·m (41 lb ft).

  1. Torque the all of the bolts 55 N·m (41 lb ft) again.

  1. Turn the bolts in the sequence shown in Illustration 1 an additional 60 degrees.
