Work Tool Parameter - Additional Information
Designed Behavior of Work Tool Parameters
Pump Flow Control Mode Parameter
Changing the "Pump Flow Control Mode" Parameter for the work tool from "Combined Flow" to "Pump #1 or Pump #2". Then changing back to "Combined Flow", the parameter will protect the tool by not allowing the second pump control spool to shift. This action keeps the pilot pressure parameter setting at
To achieve flow from the second pump, change the pressure for "Attachment Valve # X Maximum Pressure" from
Tuning High Flow Work Tools for Multi-function
Tuning a high flow work tool may be required to maximize the control of the tool during a multi-function operation. The following is a basic, high-level understanding and procedure for setting up a high flow work tool to maintain multiple operations of the Boom, Stick, Bucket, and Swing functions. This following is for "Combined Function – Electric Control" and "One-Way/One or Two Pump – Electric Control" systems only.
To maintain front linkage control, the oil flow to the work tool must be managed. To understand how to manage oil to the work tool, it is necessary to understand what functions will take oil from the work tool when activated.
Pump #1 (Drive Pump) supplies oil to the following functions with joystick control:
- Boom 1 Spool is shifted at a low pilot pressure or a small movement of the joystick
- Stick 2 spool is shifted at a high pilot pressure or a large movement of the joystick
- Bucket spool is shifted at any pilot pressure with any movement of the joystick
Tool parameters labeled as "Attachment #1" are used for controlling the shift pressure of the spool supplying oil to the tool from the Drive Pump.
Pump #2 (Idler Pump) supplies oil to the following functions with joystick control:
- Swing spool is shifted at any pilot pressure with any joystick movement
- Stick 1 spool is shifted at a low pilot pressure with a small movement of the joystick
- Boom 2 spool is shifted at high pilot pressure with large movement of the joystick
Note: Tool parameters that labeled as "Attachment #2" are used for controlling the shift pressure of the spool supplying oil to the tool from the Idler Pump.
With this understanding of which pump supplies oil to which spool, oil supply management to the work tool can be adjusted per which function oil flow needs to be made available. For example, to increase Boom UP speed, the oil flow from the drive pump to the work tool should be decreased. This can be done by decreasing the spool shift pressure for "Attachment #1" parameters. This will allow the Boom UP function to obtain more oil flow.
When tuning the high flow work tool for multi-function, the tool control systems will allow for three conditions of work tool control.
Note: "Enhanced Multiple Operation Attachment Valve Limit Enable Status" (Parameter 14) must be set to" Enabled". Also "Pump Flow Control Mode" must be set to "Combined Flow" for both pumps to supply oil to the work tool.
Condition #1: Tool operation only:
- This condition is controlled by "Attachment Valve #1/#2 Maximum Extend/Retract Pressure" (Parameters 30, 31, 40, and 41).
Condition #2: Tool operation with one other function (Boom UP, Stick IN, or Swing):
- This condition is controlled by "Single Pump Mode Maximum Extend/Retract Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve" (Parameter 15 and 16).
Condition #3: Tool operation with two or more functions (Boom UP/DOWN, Stick IN/OUT, and Swing)
- This condition is controlled by "Multiple Operation Maximum Extend/Retract Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve #1/#2"(Parameters 32, 33, 42, and 43).
For proper tuning, the pilot pressure numbers should be represented as such: Condition #1 is greater than Condition #2 is greater than Condition #3. This decrease in the pilot pressure for spool shift of the Attachment spools will decrease oil flow to the work tool. This decrease in oil flow will allow pump flow to be available for other functions and help maintain multi function operational control.
To start the tuning for a high flow work tool with multi-function, set the parameters for the work with the following:
Condition #1
- Attachment #1 Maximum Extend Pressure:
3999 kPa (580 psi) - Attachment #1 Maximum Retract Pressure:
3999 kPa (580 psi) - Attachment #2 Maximum Extend Pressure:
3999 kPa (580 psi) - Attachment #2 Maximum Retract Pressure:
3999 kPa (580 psi)
Condition #2
- Single Pump Mode Maximum Extend Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve:
1724 kPa (250 psi) - Single Pump Mode Maximum Retract Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve:
1724 kPa (250 psi)
Condition #3
- Multiple Operation Maximum Extend Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve #1:
1034 kPa (150 psi) - Multiple Operation Maximum Retract Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve #1:
1034 kPa (150 psi) - Multiple Operation Maximum Extend Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve #2:
1034 kPa (150 psi) - Multiple Operation Maximum Retract Pilot Pressure for Attachment Valve #2:
1034 kPa (150 psi)
Tune Condition #2 before tuning Condition #3.
To tune Condition #2, operate the tool along with the single most used functions to be used alone with the tool operation. Increase the parameter to increase tool speed. Decrease the parameter to give more oil flow to the function
To tune Condition #3, operate the tool along with the two most used functions to be used with the tool operation. Increase the parameter to increase tool speed. Decrease the parameter to give more oil flow to the function.
If the work tool is slow on EXTEND or RETRACT, then increase the maximum pilot pressure for EXTEND or RETRACT with that condition.
If the function is slow during the work tool EXTEND or RETRACT, then decrease the maximum pressure for EXTEND or RETRACT with that condition.
