A New Muffler Assembly Prevents Exhaust Gas Recirculation on Certain 345D Excavators and Mobile Hydraulic Power Units {1062}

The tail pipe has been shortened for the machines that are listed above. The shorter tail pipe prevents muffler exhaust gasses from recirculating inside the engine compartment. The longer tail pipe is too long and generates high air pressure in the ejector allowing exhaust gas and soot to recirculate into the engine room. The units without the noise regulatory requirement have been redesigned. The tail pipe of the muffler is shortened 100 mm (3.94 inch) from the current size to eliminate recirculation of exhaust gas to the engine room.
