Use Correct Installation Procedure For Clutch Pilot Bearing In Rear Power Takeoff{3055}

Usage:

3406 ( 90U ),
3408 ( 67U ),
3412 ( 38S ) Engines

It is important to use the correct procedure during installation of the clutch pilot bearing in the rear power takeoff used on the above engines. Some failures of the pilot bearings have been caused by installation that was not correct.

Use these steps to install the pilot bearing.

... With the clutch end play in the direction shown, install the bearing inner race on the shaft. Push the inner race on the shaft with a press until the race is 3.94" (100.1 mm) from the face of the clutch housing (see the illustration).

Installation dimensions for pilot bearing.

... With the crankshaft end play in the direction shown, push the bearing outer race into the flywheel with a press. Install the race until the distance from the flywheel housing face to the race is 2.38" (60.5 mm).

When these installation procedures are used, the bearing races will have the correct alignment when the power takeoff clutch is installed.
