Introduction

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this Special Instruction and do not order any parts until the entire instruction has been read and understood.

This Special Instruction describes the procedure to rerate the engine.

Whenever questions arise about this product or about this Special Instruction, consult your local Caterpillar dealer for the latest available information.

Procedure

Note: Unless there is a definite intent to rerate the engine, an inadvertent change to the rating of the engine by using Cat ET will require two sets of factory passwords in order to restore the Electronic Control Module ECM to the original engine rating.

The engine must be off and the keyswitch must be on when this procedure is performed. Also, 2008A or newer versions of Cat ET must be used to perform this procedure.

  1. Select the ECM configuration's screen that is shown in Illustration 1.

  3. The box for the engine's rating number will appear on the screen. Refer to Illustration 2. Select the new rating number for the engine. For example, number one is currently programmed as the engine's rating number and rating numbers two and three are available. Number two will be selected as the new engine's rating number.

  4. Press the "OK" button.

  5. Turn the keyswitch to OFF for five seconds. This will disconnect Cat ET.

  6. Turn the keyswitch to ON. The engine should remain off. Reconnect to Cat ET.

Note: Battery power may have to be removed from the ECM to complete the process and make the screen below appear.
