Usage:
3208 Truck Engines
Description of Change: The 3208 Truck Engines that have EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems use a cover assembly to control the EGR valve. The cover is on top of the fuel injection pump housing above the governor control stop. See the Illustration.
Inside this cover are electronic components that control the position of the EGR valve. A new cover assembly is now used that has different electronic components which give longer service when operated in variable temperatures. A failure of these components moves the EGR valve to the full recirculation position. This causes a loss of power and too much smoke.
Adaptable To: The new 9N3773 Cover Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 9N2432 Cover Assembly which is canceled.
INSTALLATION: Always use the EGR Section in the 3208 Truck Engine Service Manual, Form SEBR0506, for troubleshooting before any new parts are installed. Use the troubleshooting chart.
If you are sure the system does not operate correctly, but the electrical controls show no problem when cold, install a new cover assembly. It is possible the former part will give a satisfactory test when cold, but not operate correctly when hot during engine operation.
