Usage:
3208 Truck Engines Equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation System
Description of Change: A new fuel injection nozzle is used on 3208 Truck Engines that are equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. The new injection nozzle has a smaller "SAC" volume which puts out less hydro-carbon emissions than the former injection nozzle. "SAC" volume is the remainder of fuel in the tip of the injector nozzle after injection. This gives a reduction in the amount of fuel that will get into the cylinder after each injection. If engine RPM surges after the installation of the new injector nozzles, it can be necessary to install a new 9N5083 EGR Switch Assembly. The new EGR switch assembly has a 1 ounce (28.3 gram) preload on the springs in comparison to a 4 ounce (113.4 gram) preload with the former 9N2434 Switch Assembly.
NOTE: It is only necessary to change the EGR switch assembly if the engine has a surge.
Adaptable As: The 9N3299 Injection Nozzle Assembly is a direct replacement for the 9L6969 and 9N3700 Injector Nozzle Asemblies used on 3208 Truck Engines equipped with EGR. The 9N3299 Injection Nozzle Assembly can now be used on 3208 Truck Engines with Serial Numbers 40S42584-up. This is a change from the information shown in an article on Page 2 of the March 27, 1978 Service Magazine. The 9N3700 Injector Nozzle Assembly has been canceled.
