Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Engine software with a personality module release date of November 2007 or later may cause the engine to shut down during regenerations that are activated by Cat ET. This occurs because the idle shutdown timer shuts down the engine.

Solution

Perform the following procedure on Cat ET in order to temporarily disable the idle shutdown timer:

  • Select the "Diagnostics" menu.

  • Select the "Diagnostic Tests" menu.

  • Select the "System Troubleshooting Settings" menu.

  • Program the "Idle Shutdown Timer" parameter to "Off".

Perform the stationary regeneration.

There are three ways to return the idle shutdown timer to normal after the regeneration is complete:

  • Use the "Disable Override" button on Cat ET.

  • Turn the keyswitch to the Off position. The parameter will automatically be set to "Normal" when the keyswitch is turned to the On position.

  • The ECM will automatically program the "Idle Shutdown Timer" parameter to "Normal" 60 minutes after the override was turned off.
