Software Update for Model Year 2007 C7 On-Highway Engine in General Motor Chassis{1901}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Starter

The current software may cause the starter to cycle during the initial engagement.

Exhaust Brake

During a stationary warm up, the engine rpm may decrease. This may be due to the exhaust brake being programmed to "Warm Up".

Solution

Starter

New software will address the starter cycling during the initial engagement and the warm up issue. Refer to ""Exhaust Brake" " for an immediate repair for the warm up issue only. New software will be available in the first quarter of 2008.

Exhaust Brake

  1. Set up Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET)

  1. "Exhaust Brake/Warm Up" parameter can be programmed without a factory password. Program the parameter to "Exhaust Brake Only".
