Plate Locations and Film Locations

Usage:

CG137-08 ST8
Cat engines are identified with serial numbers, with performance specification numbers, and with arrangement numbers. In some of the cases, modification numbers are used. These numbers are shown on the Serial Number Plate and the Information Plate that are mounted on the engine.

Cat dealers need these numbers to determine the components that were included with the engine. These numbers permit accurate identification of replacement part numbers.

The Serial Number Plate is on the left side of the cylinder block near the front of the engine.

The following information is stamped on the Serial Number Plate: engine serial number, model, and arrangement number.

The Information Plate is on the valve cover base on the right side of the engine towards the rear of the engine.

The following information is stamped on the Information Plate: serial number, arrangement number, compression ratio, aftercooler temperature (degree celsius and degree Fahrenheit), ignition timing, power (kilowatts and horsepower), full load speed, and date of manufacture.
