Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove clean emissions module.


NOTICE

Clamp assemblies MUST only be used once. Discard all clamp assemblies after use.



NOTICE

Bellows assemblies MUST only be used once. Discard all bellows assemblies after use.

  1. Remove bolts (1). Remove exhaust shield (3).

  2. Remove bolts (2). Remove exhaust shield (4).

  3. Remove bolts (6). Remove exhaust shield (8).

  4. Remove bolts (5). Remove exhaust shield (7).

  5. Remove exhaust temperature sensors (9).

  6. Remove bolts (10) and shields (11).

  7. Remove clamps (12) and bellows (13).

  8. Disconnect latch mechanisms (16). Remove bolts (14) and shields (15).

  9. Repeat Step 8 for the remaining shields.

    Note: Work from the front of the engine to the rear.

    Note: Attach suitable rigid support to exhaust manifolds prior to removal. The rigid support will allow removal of exhaust manifolds (17) without disruption of the bellows joints.

  10. Attach a suitable lifting device onto exhaust manifolds (17). The weight of exhaust manifolds (17) is approximately 48 kg (105 lb).

  11. Remove bolts (19) and the washers from exhaust manifolds (17). Loosen bolts (18).

  12. Remove exhaust manifold (17) and exhaust manifold gaskets.

  13. Repeat Step 10 through Step 12 for the opposite side.

    Note: Attach rigid support to exhaust manifolds prior to Install. The rigid support will allow removal of exhaust manifolds (17) without disruption of the bellows joints.

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads and bearing surfaces of bolts (19) and bolts (18).

  2. Attach a suitable lifting device onto exhaust manifolds (17). The weight of exhaust manifolds (17) is approximately 140 kg (310 lb).

  3. Position exhaust manifolds (17). Install bolts (19) in exhaust manifolds (17). Tighten bolts (19) and bolts (18) to a torque of 65 ± 5 N·m (48 ± 4 lb ft).

  4. Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 for the opposite side.

  5. Install shields (15). Tighten bolts (14) and connect latch mechanisms (16).

    Note: Start with the shields at the rear of the engine and toward the front of the engine.

    Note: Ensure that the distances between the convolutions are uniform.

    Note: Ensure that bellows are installed for proper flow direction as indicated on bellows by arrow.

  6. Apply Tooling (A) to threads and bearing surfaces before assembly.

  7. Install bellows (13) and clamps (12). Tighten clamps (12) to a torque of 17 ± 2 N·m (13 ± 1 lb ft).

  8. Install shields (11) and bolts (10).

  9. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads and bearing surfaces of bolts (5) and bolts (6).

  10. Install exhaust shield (7). Install bolts (5).

  11. Install exhaust shield (8). Install bolts (6).

  12. Inspect the threads and the sealing surface for damage on the installation port of temperature sensors (9). Apply Tooling (A) on the threads of temperature sensors (9).

  13. Install temperature sensors (9) and tighten to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft)

  14. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads and bearing surfaces of bolts (1) and bolts (2).

  15. Install exhaust shield (4). Install bolts (2).

  16. Install exhaust shield (3). Install bolts (1).

End By:

  1. Install clean emissions module.
