Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

------ WARNING! ------

When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".

  2. Disconnect cable assemblies (5). Disconnect harness assemblies (1) and (3). Remove nuts (4) and electric starting motor (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Position electric starting motor (2). Install nuts (4). Tighten nuts (4) to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

  2. Connect harness assemblies (1) and (3). Connect cable assemblies (5).

  3. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".
