Improvements To The Power Train Oil Pump{3066}

Usage:

D9T RJS
Track-Type Tractor:
D9T (S/N: RJS1-UP)

Introduction

This special instruction contains the procedure for reworking the pump body of the power train oil pump. A 3 mm (0.118 inch) drain hole has been added to the pump body in order to reduce pressure from behind the seal. This procedure will extend the service life of the lip seal for the pump and the drive shaft flange. The newly designed pump body is effective with machines D9T (S/N: RJS939-UP).

Safety

------ WARNING! ------

Do not attempt to disassemble or assemble this machine until you read and understand the disassembly and assembly instructions. Improper disassembly and assembly procedures could result in injury or death.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.

----------------------

NOTICE

Do not allow any dirt or foreign material to get into the power train system during assembly, connection of lines, when components are filled with fluid, or during any maintenance operation.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE

Maintain the oil in the power train system at the correct level in order to prevent pump cavitation.

    (3) 3 + 0.25 − 0.10 mm (0.118 + 0.10 − .004 inch) hole diameter

    (A) 85 mm (3.3 inch)

    (B) 28 mm (1.1 inch) to the center line of the spot face

    (C) 30 mm (1.2 inch) to the center line of the hole

    (D) 24 mm (0.9 inch)

    (E) 9 mm (0.4 inch)

  1. Put spot face (2) on both sides of pump body (1). Refer to dimension (A), dimension (B), dimension (D), and dimension (E) in Illustration 3 for the correct location of spot face (2) .

Note: Spot face (2) will ensure that a flat surface is available for drilling.

  1. Drill through hole (3) with drill bit (6). Refer to dimension (A) and dimension (C) in Illustration 3 for the location of through hole (3). If necessary, deburr through hole (3) and spot face (2) .

  1. Clean pump body (1) in order to avoid contamination of the power train system.
