Introduction

Note: This procedure will be similar for all machines that are listed in this instruction.

This Special Instruction provides the procedures and the requirements that are needed for replacing the hydraulic control support that has three bearings with the hydraulic control support that has four bearings. The hydraulic control support in the 988H Wheel Loader is not sturdy enough to prevent excessive vibrations. As a result, the hydraulic controls vibrate aggressively. The new four bearing design for the hydraulic control support eliminates much of the vibration.

Left hand hydraulic control support is shown for the detail.

  1. Loosen two setscrews (11) at both ends of upper shaft (12) .

    Illustration 6g01439995

  1. Hold support (13) with one hand in order to prevent the support from rotating downward.

  1. Slide upper shaft (12) toward the rear of cab until the upper shaft separates from the upper bearing of support (13) .

  1. Keep the spacers located on the upper shaft (12) for reinstallation.

Note: Make sure that you use four new bearings (2) and eight new retaining rings (3) with the new plate assembly. Each bearing requires two rings.

  1. Mount four bearings (2) and eight rings (3) in the new plate assembly (1).

  1. Mount new plate assembly (1) to the control group by using the existing five bolts. Refer to Illustration 8.

  1. Slide the lower shaft through the lower support bearings and tighten the setscrews at both ends of the lower shaft.
