Speed Sensor (Transmission Output) - Replace

Usage:

Torque Converter Output Speed Sensor

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Disconnect harness assemblies (3).

  2. Remove nuts (1) and bolts (2).

  3. Lift cover assembly (4) in order to access the second harness assembly (3). Disconnect the second harness assembly.

  4. Remove cover assembly (4) and the gasket.

  5. Loosen nut (6).

  6. Remove speed sensor (5).

  7. Install a new speed sensor. Thread in speed sensor (5) until the speed sensor lightly contacts a gear tooth. Then, turn the speed sensor for one half of a turn.

  8. Maintain the position of speed sensor (5) as you tighten nut (6).

  9. Apply 8T-0065 Silicone Sealant to both mating surfaces of a new gasket. Place the gasket in the proper position.

  10. Connect the second harness assembly to cover (4) and place cover (4) in the proper position.

  11. Install nuts (1) and bolts (2).

Transmission Output Speed Sensor

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect harness assembly (1).

  2. Remove bolt (3) and the washer.

  3. Remove speed sensor (2).

  4. Install a new speed sensor.

  5. Install bolt (3) and the washer.

  6. Connect harness assembly (1).
