Note: Alignment of the pin joints is an important factor. The pins that are used in the pin joints are a slip fit. It is important to relieve the pin joint pressure from the pin joints that are being serviced. It is important to park the machine on a surface that is flat and level. Use the implement hydraulics, hoists, or suitable lifting devices in order to relieve the pin joint pressure. Use Illustration 1 as a guide for the pins and the pin joints that are referenced in this procedure.

Note: The following steps are for the removal of bearings (26) at the four pin joints of boom (1).

    Illustration 27g00863856

  30. Assemble Tooling (E). The bearing plate will rotate enough in order to allow insertion through the inside diameter of the bearing that is being removed.

  31. The bearing plate will then rotate into position after the bearing plate has passed through the inside diameter of the bearing.

  32. The following steps are for preparing the bearing for removal.

      Illustration 28g00565676

Note: Before the bearing is removed, use air arc gouging or a torch gouging tip in order to remove material. Do not allow the air arc gouging to damage the bore. This can create high spots under the bearing or a leak path.

    1. Cut approximately 3/4 of the way through the bearing in four locations. See Illustration 28. This will relax the bearing. Minimum force will then be required in order to pull the bearing .

    2. Allow the bearing to reach ambient temperature before removal.

    Illustration 30g00863878

  33. Use a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to support Tooling (E). The weight of Tooling (E) is 159 kg (350 lb). Mount Tooling (E) in place on the rear side of bearing (27).

  34. Remove bearing (27) from the boom bore.

  35. Repeat Steps 32 through 34 in order to remove the bearings from the opposite side of the boom.

  36. Remove spacer (28) from the H-pin bore of the boom. The spacer is a slip fit inside the H-pin bore. The weight of spacer (28) is 18 kg (40 lb).

Note: Use the same procedure for the remaining pin joints. The weight of the bearing spacer in the L-pin joint is 34 kg (75 lb). Use a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to remove the spacer.

  37. If the bores in the boom are damaged, perform the following procedures:

    • Perform a repair weld on any gouges.

    • Use the die grinder to repair the welds.

    • Use a die grinder to grind any high spots.

    Illustration 32g00863879

  38. Remove seal assemblies (29) from lift cylinder (4). Repeat this step for the remaining lift cylinder.
