Note: Check the condition of all seals and of all components. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

- Heat two bearing races (1) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F).
- Install the two bearing races on the pinion shaft until the bearing races make contact with the shoulders that are on the shaft.
- Install pinion shaft (2) in the final drive case.

- Install the bearing in the cage with tool (A) .
- Install the ring that holds the bearing in position.
Note: Make sure that the hole in the bearing is in alignment with the hole that is in the cage.

- Install dowel (3) in the cage and into the bearing.
- Install a new plug over the dowel.

Note: For assembly and installation of Duo-Cone Seals , refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Seals - Install".
- Install the Duo-Cone seal in the flange with tool (B) .
Note: The rubber seal and the surface that makes contact with the seal must be clean and dry. After installation of the seal, put clean oil on the contact surface of the metal seal.

- Put 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket on the contact surface of cage (4) . Put 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket on the surface of the steering clutch case that makes contact with cage (4) .
- Install cage (4) in the steering clutch case.
- Install bolts (5) that hold the cage in position. Tighten the bolts to torque of 135 ± 14 N·m (100 ± 10 lb ft).
- Install the Duo-Cone seal in the cage with tool (B) .

- Install flange (6) on the pinion shaft.
- Install tooling (C) .
- Push the flange into position with a force of 180 kN to 225 kN (40470 lb to 50590 lb).
- Remove tool (C) .

- Check the distance at Dimension (D) . Dimension (D) is that distance from the face of the flange to the shoulder on the pinion shaft. Dimension (D) must be 3.18 ± 0.76 mm (0.125 ± 0.030 inch).
- Install the large nut on the end of the pinion shaft. Tighten the nut to a torque of 950 ± 135 N·m (700 ± 100 lb ft).
- Install the lock and the small bolt that holds the lock.

Install the steering clutches. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Clutch - Remove and Install".
