Water Temperature Regulator Housing - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Disconnect hose (6) from water temperature regulator housing (1).

  3. Disconnect hose (3) from housing manifold (2).

  4. Disconnect harness assembly (7) for the coolant temperature sensor.

  5. Remove bolts (5).

  6. Loosen studs (4) and remove water temperature regulator housing (1) and housing manifold (2) from the cylinder head.

  7. Remove water temperature regulator housing (1) and gasket (9). Remove housing manifold (2) and gasket (8).

  8. Remove water temperature regulator (10).

  9. Remove lip seal (11) from the water temperature regulator housing.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (11) in water temperature regulator housing (1).

  2. Install water temperature regulator (10) in the water temperature regulator housing.

  3. Install gasket (9) on studs (4).

  4. Install housing manifold (2) and gasket (8) on the studs.

  5. Position water temperature regulator housing (1) and housing manifold (2) on the cylinder head and tighten studs (4) to a torque of 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 7 lb ft).

  6. Install bolts (5) and tighten to a torque of 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 7 lb ft).

  7. Connect hose (6).

  8. Connect hose (3).

  9. Connect harness assembly (7) for the coolant temperature sensor.

  10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
