Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations".

  1. Remove tube assembly (1) from engine oil pan (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (2) .

  1. Remove engine oil pan (3) and remove the oil pan gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the oil pan gasket and engine oil pan (3) on the cylinder block.

  1. Install bolts (2) that fasten the engine oil pan to the cylinder block. Tighten Bolts (X). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).

  1. Start at Position (Z) and tighten the remaining bolts in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the remaining bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).

  1. Start at Position (Z) and tighten the bolts again in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 ± 3 N·m (23 ± 2 lb ft).

  1. Install tube assembly (1) .

  1. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations".
