SUBJECT:

Caterpillar is releasing replacement software for PCS version 2.07A and 2.07AR software (Cat p/n 213-8794 and 213-8799 respectively).

PROBLEM:

The new software corrects a known issue (CID 350, Position Sensor, Lift Linkage) and compensates for the spurious position sensor faults that are associated with the HVAC blower motor spin down in the 980GII cabs.

Additionally, the new software corrects a known issue in the previous software that required an additional calibration step. This additional calibration step was not documented in the service and operator manuals.

This software includes a new feature that reminds the operator when it would be appropriate to re-zero the machine. The feature can be toggled on and off via the Owner Menu and is defaulted to the OFF position. The menu item is located immediately after the Printer Menu. For more information on the ZERO function, refer to SEBU7012, Operation Manual, "Payload Control System (PCS)".

Notes:

This software release addresses a very specific complaint (CID 350) in Series II machines. Further improvements are under development to address accuracy issues experienced by some customers. This will be introduced in the very near future. If a machine is currently not experiencing problems, it is recommended that you hold off updating software until the accuracy improvements are released.

Flashing this new software will require you to perform a new calibration on the Payload Control System.

SOLUTION:

1. Turn off the engine.

2. Connect to the machine with a Caterpillar Comm Adapter. Turn on the keyswitch.

3. Start Caterpillar ET software and select the Payload Control System ECM.

4. Start the WinFlash software in ET. Select the Payload Control System ECM.

5. Locate and select the new flash file (228-6547 Software Gp.) for machines without the rod end pressure sensor. Locate and select the new flash file (228-6562 Software Gp.) for machines with the rod end pressure sensor. Click the "Begin Flash" button to flash the ECM. When finished, Close ET

6. Perform the PCS calibration as outlined in SENR6614, Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Payload Control System".
