SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR/FUEL RATIO CONTROL DIAPHRAGM ON
ENGINE FUEL INJECTION PUMP

PROBLEM:

The 165-3812 Air/Fuel Ratio Control Diaphragm is no longer available from Caterpillar as a serviceable component of the fuel injection pumps on the above engines and machines.

SOLUTION:

Repair or replacement of the air/fuel ratio control diaphragm (165-3812) on Delphiâ fuel injection pumps (formerly Lucasâ fuel injection pumps) must be carried out by an authorized or registered Delphiâ dealer. Replacement of this part requires checking fuel pump settings following repair. This check must be made on a calibrated fuel pump test bench in order to verify that pump settings fall within the specifications in order to maintain compliance with EPA emissions standards. Such work may only be carried out by an authorized Delphiâ injection pump service dealer. The illustration shows the location of the air/fuel ratio control diaphragm on a fuel injection pump.
