Problem:
A recent change to the 4T3131 and 4T3132 filter elements may produce a requirement of more engine warm up time before the machine can be moved. Machines possibly affected would be those serviced with elements obtained from Caterpillar parts after January 28, 1998.
Solution:
Replace the 4T3131 Element (on 943 slanted filter, only) with a 132-8875 Element and replace the 4T3132 Element with a 132-8876 Element. Replacement is only necessary if the date code on the end of the 4T series element is later than 280198 (date format DDMMYY). Standard date coding practice on these filters substitutes letters in place of the numbers as illustrated below. For each of the numbers 0 through 9, the equivalent letter used is listed directly beneath it.

For example, the date January 28, 1998 (280198) would appear as "MONUDO" on the end of the element.

NOTE: The 4T series elements have always been designed for operation in fire resistant fluids. Until the introduction of the high efficiency elements, the higher efficiency 4T series elements were also used for production clean-out operations. For vehicles using regular hydraulic fluid, the higher cost 4T series elements should be replaced by the comparable high efficiency filters. ALWAYS USE THE 4T SERIES FILTERS IN VEHICLES USING FIRE RESISTANT HYDRAULIC FLUID.
