Problem:
The four 8T-7338 Bolts that hold the 4E-8159 Retainer Plate may loosen.
Solution:
Rework the 4E-8159 Retainer Plate by increasing the size of the four bolt holes and installing four new spacers and washers. The result is a joint that retains the pin but allows movement side to side between the frame and retainer plate. Use the following procedure to rework the 4E-8159 Retainer Plate.
NOTE: First production of the new lower articulated hitch design will begin April 1999.
Rework Procedure
Parts Needed
- 1. Remove eight 8T-7338 Bolts (1) and 4E-8159 Retainer Plate (2) from the bottom of the lower hitch.
- 2. Enlarge four outer bolt holes (A) on the 4E-8159 Retainer Plate by drilling the holes to a diameter of 38 mm (1.5 in). This is the bolt pattern that mounts the plate to the frame.
- 3. Install 4E-8159 Retainer Plate (2) with four 8G-5258 Spacers (3) and four 8T-5439 Washers (4). Install the retainer plate with eight existing 8T-7338 Bolts (1).
