Fan Drive Bearing Failures Caterpillar

Fan Drive Bearing Failures

Usage:

LOGGING AND FOREST PRODUCTS525 (1DN1-UP) SKIDDERS

Problem:

An abnormal normal number of fan drive bearing failures have occurred. The cause of the failure is usually lack of lubrication. the rear 8H-9789 Bearing (1) is the one most prone to failure. Because of the fan drive's design, the rear bearing is the last to be lubricated.

Solution:

It is recommended that all 525 Skidder owners immediately lubricate their fan drive with a high pressure premium lubricant such as 161-9203 Caterpillar Auto-Lube Grease No.1. The grease should be pumped into the drive until grease is seen just exiting from under the rear seal lip (2). This will ensure the rear bearing (1) is lubricated.
