906 (6ZS) COMPACT WHEEL LOADER
Problem:

SEBP2818, 902 Wheel Loader Parts Manual, October 1998, pages 370-371.
Some Compact Wheel Loaders have arrived at dealers with the 138-0287 Roof Assembly (Yellow) or the 138-0286 Roof Assembly (Black) broken.
Confusion may exist as to the part number of the roof because the 138-0287 Roof Assemblies (Yellow) may have a printed sticker on the underside of the roof which incorrectly identifies the part.
The current 902 and 906 parts manual does not list the color of the roof or the latest configurations for the cab roof groups.
Solution:
We are currently investigating the problem to determine the root cause. Should a Compact Wheel Loader arrive at the dealership with a broken roof, please question the shipper regarding the damage.
- 1. Caterpillar believes the roof failures may be the result of incorrect tie down procedures (straps over the roof) used by the shipper.
- 2. Wind damage caused by transporting the machine on an open truck at high speeds.
Please take photographs of the damage and contact Mike Kearns of Customer Support at 919-777-2131 in Sanford, NC USA for problems in NACD and CACO.
Use the attached bill of materials to order parts. The Numerical Parts Record has the current part numbers and roof assembly part numbers to include the correct color description. The next version of The Service Information System (SIS) should also have the correct color description. There have been additional changes to the cab roof groups. The correct part numbers are listed below.
A future Service Magazine article will detail the installation procedures.
