Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Apply clean engine oil to the cylinder liner bore, to the piston rings, and to the outer surface of the piston.

- Use Tooling (A) to install piston (2) and the connecting rod in the cylinder liner.
Note: Orient the piston and connecting rod with the connecting rod bearing tabs facing the right side of the engine.
Note: Be careful not to damage the cylinder liners and/or the crankshaft journals during the installation of the pistons and the connecting rods.
- Install bolts (1) and the bearing caps. Refer to Specifications, "Connecting Rod" for the correct tightening procedure.

End By:
- Install the piston cooling jets. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Cooling Jets - Remove and Install".
- Install the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Install".
- Install the cylinder head. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Install".
