Engine Oil Filter Base - Remove

Start By:

  1. Remove the heat exchanger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Heat Exchanger - Remove".

  2. Remove the marine transmission oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Marine Transmission Oil Cooler - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove engine oil filter (3) with Tooling (A).

  2. Remove bolts (2).

  3. Remove oil filter base assembly (1).

  4. Remove the taperlock stud from the oil filter base assembly.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  5. Remove clamps (7).

  6. Remove tube assembly (8) and tube assembly (9).

  7. If necessary, remove the engine oil bypass valve. Remove plug (4). Remove bypass valve assembly (6) and spring (5) from oil filter base (1). Remove the O-ring seal from plug (4).

  8. Disconnect tube assembly (12).

  9. Remove bolts (11).

  10. Remove oil filter base (10). Remove gasket (13) from the engine oil filter base.

  11. If necessary, remove cover (14) from the engine oil filter base. Remove the O-ring seal from the cover. Remove adapter (15) from the engine oil filter base. Remove the O-ring seal from the adapter. Remove the taperlock stud from the engine oil filter base.

  12. Remove oil cooler core assembly (16) from the cylinder block. Remove gasket (17) from the oil cooler core assembly.
