Usage:
955L Loaders
Description of Change: A "molded" type brake lining is now used in the steering brakes on 955L Loaders, and a higher oil level is used with the new lining. Since the new molded lining is not as soft as the former woven lining, the brake pedal will feel more solid and brake action more positive during brake application. Also, the new, harder lining will give longer service life, and the frequency of adjustment will be less. The friction characteristics of the new and former linings are the same.
At the same time, a new oil level gauge is used in the power train oil filler group to increase the amount of oil in the bevel gear compartment. With the new oil level gauge, approximately 13 liters (3.4 gal) of oil must be added to the compartment. This higher oil level is necessary for good brake operation with the new lining.
Adaptable To: All earlier 955L Loaders (13X, 8Y, 57M) when the new parts are used together. The new oil level gauge and higher oil level can be used with either new or former brake lining, but the new lining must not be used with the former oil level gauge.
The new parts are also adaptable to earlier 955 Loaders (85J, 64J, 57J, 71J), but it is possible that operators will not like the brake pedal action on these machines.
