Note: Use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts before assembly.

Use the following procedure to tighten the cylinder head bolts:

  1. Torque for bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 27 N·m (200 ± 20 lb ft)

  1. Again torque the bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (332 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Finally torque the bolt (1) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (332 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Install the rocker arm assemblies onto the cylinder head.

  1. Torque for the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 27 N·m (200 ± 20 lb ft)

  1. Again torque the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (332 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Finally torque the bolt (21) through bolt (26) in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (332 ± 15 lb ft).

Note: Tighten the bolts only after the cylinder head bolts have been given final torque.

  1. Torque the bolt (27) through bolt (39) to 43 ± 7 N·m (32 ± 5 lb ft).

(40) Torque for taperlock studs ... 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft)

Note: Use Loctite Hi-Temp Flange Sealant on the cup plugs.

(E) The cup plugs are installed into the cylinder head at the following depth. ... 4.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.18 ± 0.02 inch)

(F) The cup plugs are installed into the cylinder head at the following depth. ... 2.0 ± 0.5 mm (0.08 ± 0.02 inch)

(G) The cup plugs are installed into the cylinder head at the following depth. ... 0.8 ± 0.5 mm (0.03 ± 0.02 inch)

Note: Lubricate the bore of the O-ring seal (44) lightly with the silicone compound prior to installation of the adapter.

Note: Apply 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound onto the threads of the adapter prior to installation.

(43) Torque for adapter ... 95 ± 7 N·m (70 ± 5 lb ft)
