    Typical Example

  1. Put alternator (3) in position on the engine.

  2. Install bolts (2) and nuts (1) that fasten the alternator to the alternator bracket. Tighten nuts (1) finger tight.

  3. Install tension adjustment bolt (5) through the adjustment bracket and into the alternator. Do not tighten tension adjustment bolt (5) and bolt (6) at this time.

  4. Install V-belts (4) in position on the pulley. Adjust the tension on V-belts (4) by moving alternator (3) away from the engine. Tighten tension adjustment bolt (5) after the proper belt tension is made. Refer to Specifications, "Belt Tension Chart" for the correct tension of the V-belts. Tighten tension adjustment bolt (5) to a torque of 78 N·m (58 lb ft).

Note: If the V-belt cannot be checked with a gauge, press on the V-belt at the center of the longest free length in order to check the deflection. Under a moderate amount of pressure, the V-belt should have a deflection of 10.0 mm (0.40 inch).

  5. Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft). Tighten nuts (1) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  6. Connect the electrical wires to the alternator.

  7. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
