Fuel System Primary Filter - Replace

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately. |

- Stop the engine.
- Turn the start switch to the "OFF" position. Disconnect the battery.
- Shut off the fuel tank supply valve to the engine.
- If the primary fuel filter is equipped with a drain valve, open the drain valve in order to drain any fuel from the filter case. Close the drain valve.
- Loosen the bolt (1) that is on the filter housing. Remove the filter case (3) .

Use a suitable container to catch any fuel that might spill. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately. |

- Remove the element (2) and wash the element in clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Install the element (2) and the filter case (3). Tighten the bolt (1) to a torque of 24 ± 4 N·m (18 ± 3 lb ft).

Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts. |
