Fuel System Primary Filter - Replace

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Turn the start switch to the "OFF" position. Disconnect the battery.

  1. Shut off the fuel tank supply valve to the engine.

  1. If the primary fuel filter is equipped with a drain valve, open the drain valve in order to drain any fuel from the filter case. Close the drain valve.


    NOTICE

    Use a suitable container to catch any fuel that might spill. Clean up any spilled fuel immediately.

  1. Loosen the bolt (1) that is on the filter housing. Remove the filter case (3) .

  1. Remove the element (2) and wash the element in clean, nonflammable solvent.


    NOTICE

    Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.


  1. Install the element (2) and the filter case (3). Tighten the bolt (1) to a torque of 24 ± 4 N·m (18 ± 3 lb ft).
