0166-11 Rated Engine Power Derate
Conditions Which Generate This Code:
This code indicates that the engine has run above 95% of full power for more than 15 minutes in a one hour period. The engine will be derated in order to prevent damage to the engine. This could be caused by misapplication of the engine.
Note: This feature is only available for C-12 engines that are rated at 505 HP for use in Recreational Vehicles.
System Response:
Engine Response The engine has been derated to 455 HP. The engine will restore full power after the engine has run in the derated condition for one hour.
Test Step 1. Talk to the Operator
Note: No repair to the engine is necessary.
- Determine the conditions that generated this code. Determine if there were any loads that could cause the engine to run at high horsepower. Also, steep hills could cause the derate.
Expected Result:
Excessive load and/or climbing hills caused the derate.
Results:
- OK - The reason for the derate was determined.
Repair: Reduce the load on the engine.
