Removal Procedure for the PTO (If Equipped)
Start By:
- Remove the V-belts for the PTO. Each application may be different. Refer to the OEM of the driven equipment for the removal procedure.
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Remove allen head screws (3) from taper lock (2).

Removal Procedure for the Vibration Damper and Pulley
Start By:
- Remove the V-belts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-Belts - Remove and Install".
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Remove two bolts (3) that secure engine turning tool (2) (if equipped) to vibration damper (1).
Illustration 3 | g00768016 |
- Remove the remaining bolts that fasten the vibration damper to the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove vibration damper (1) from the front of the engine.
- Remove three bolts that secure thrust block (8) to the crankshaft. Remove the thrust block.
Note: Do not use a puller tool to remove the crankshaft pulley from the vibration damper.

- Remove crankshaft pulley (5) from the front of the engine.
Installation Procedure for the Vibration Damper and Pulley
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Clean the following items: the spacer, the tapered rings, the bore of the pulley and the end of the crankshaft.
- Install the crankshaft pulley on the engine.
- Install spacer (6) and tapered rings (7). Ensure that the gaps of the tapered rings are not aligned.
Illustration 6 | g00767995 |
- Lubricate O-ring seal (9) and thrust block (8) with clean engine oil. Lubricate the three bolts that fasten the thrust block to the crankshaft. Place thrust block (8) and bolts into position.
- Tighten the bolts for thrust block (8) for Naturally Aspirated engines evenly to a torque of 115 N·m (85 lb ft). Tighten the bolts for thrust block (7) for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines evenly to a torque of 125 N·m (92 lb ft).
- Inspect the vibration damper for wear. Check for damage to the outer casing. Check for cracks around the bolt holes. Check for any leakage of viscous fluid.
- Install engine turning tool (2) (if equipped) with two bolts (3) .
Illustration 7 | g00768016 |
- Install remaining bolts (4) that fasten the vibration damper (1) to the crankshaft pulley.
- Tighten bolts (3) for the engine turning tool (if equipped) to a torque of 94 N·m (69 lb ft).
- Tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines to a torque of 85 N·m (63 lb ft). Tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Naturally Aspirated engines to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Loosen bolts (3) and (4) for the vibration damper.
- Again tighten bolts (3) on the engine turning tool (if equipped) to a torque of 94 N·m (69 lb ft).
- Again tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines to a torque of 85 N·m (63 lb ft). Again tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Naturally Aspirated engines to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
End By: Install the V-belts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-Belts - Remove and Install".
Installation Procedure for the PTO (If Equipped)
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Install PTO shaft (4) onto the front face of the vibration damper.
Illustration 8 | g00767851 |
- Tighten bolts (5) for the PTO shaft and the vibration damper to a torque of 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
- Loosen bolts (5) for the PTO shaft and the vibration damper.
- Again tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
- Clean the mounting face of pulley (1). Clean taper lock (2) .
Illustration 9 | g00767312 |
- Install taper lock (2) into pulley (1).
- Install pulley (1) for the PTO onto PTO shaft (4). Align the key (if equipped) and fully seat the key.
- Lightly oil allen head screws (3) before installation. Install allen head screws (3) .
- Tighten allen head screws (3) in an star pattern.
- Ensure that taper lock (2) is seated square. Hammer around the large end of the taper lock by using a drift pin and a hammer.
- Finally tighten allen head screws (3) to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
End By: Install the V-belts for the PTO. Each application may be different. Refer to the OEM of the driven equipment for the installation procedure.
