NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Clean the following items: the spacer, the tapered rings, the bore of the pulley and the end of the crankshaft.

  1. Install the crankshaft pulley on the engine.

    Illustration 6g00767995

  1. Install spacer (6) and tapered rings (7). Ensure that the gaps of the tapered rings are not aligned.

  1. Lubricate O-ring seal (9) and thrust block (8) with clean engine oil. Lubricate the three bolts that fasten the thrust block to the crankshaft. Place thrust block (8) and bolts into position.

  1. Tighten the bolts for thrust block (8) for Naturally Aspirated engines evenly to a torque of 115 N·m (85 lb ft). Tighten the bolts for thrust block (7) for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines evenly to a torque of 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  1. Inspect the vibration damper for wear. Check for damage to the outer casing. Check for cracks around the bolt holes. Check for any leakage of viscous fluid.

  1. Install engine turning tool (2) (if equipped) with two bolts (3) .

  1. Install remaining bolts (4) that fasten the vibration damper (1) to the crankshaft pulley.

  1. Tighten bolts (3) for the engine turning tool (if equipped) to a torque of 94 N·m (69 lb ft).

  1. Tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines to a torque of 85 N·m (63 lb ft). Tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Naturally Aspirated engines to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

  1. Loosen bolts (3) and (4) for the vibration damper.

  1. Again tighten bolts (3) on the engine turning tool (if equipped) to a torque of 94 N·m (69 lb ft).

  1. Again tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Turbocharged Aftercooled engines to a torque of 85 N·m (63 lb ft). Again tighten bolts (4) for the vibration damper for Naturally Aspirated engines to a torque of 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

End By: Install the V-belts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-Belts - Remove and Install".
