NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Use Tooling (B) in order to clean the inside diameter of air compressor drive gear (4) and the outside diameter of the drive shaft for the air compressor.

  2. Lubricate washer (3) and the threads on the drive shaft with clean engine oil.

  3. Mount air compressor (1) in a bench vise.


    NOTICE

    A loose air compressor drive gear can lead to immediate loss of hydraulic power to vehicle systems


  4. Install Tooling (B).

  5. Install air compressor drive gear (4) on the air compressor crankshaft.

  6. Install washer (3) and nut (2).

  7. Tighten nut (2) to a torque of 170 ± 15 N·m (125 ± 11 lb ft).

  8. Use a soft faced hammer and tap the air compressor drive gear. Again tighten the nut to a torque of 170 ± 15 N·m (125 ± 11 lb ft).

End By:

  1. Install the air compressor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install".
