Engine Oil Pump - Disassemble

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove elbow (1) from the engine oil pump.

  1. Remove bolts (2) .

  1. Remove cover (3) from the pump housing.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (6) and idler gear (7) from the cover.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove gear (5) from drive shaft (4) .


    NOTICE

    Before removing the drive shaft from the pump housing, be sure that no burrs exist on the drive shaft. If the drive shaft has burrs on it, the bores in the pump housing may be scratched.


  1. Remove drive shaft (4) from the pump housing.
